(Shippensburg, Pa.): Clarion's baseball team traveled from South Carolina Friday to Shippensburg to play the Red Raiders a doubleheader on Saturday where the Golden Eagles dropped a pair of games by scores of 5-2 and 12-0.
Held at Art Fairchild Field, Clarion's record dropped to 2-10 overall, while Shippensburg raised its record to 5-10.
Clarion game one starter and loser was
Brandon Slater who pitched 4.1 innings giving up 5 runs, with only 3 were earned. He struck out 2, walked 4 and gave up 5 hits. He received relief help from
Seth Peterson who pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.
Down 2-0 in the fourth, Clarion rallied with two runs to tie the game.
Josh Beimel and
Matt Rossi opened the inning with singles.
Ken Morgan singled to center but Beimel was thrown out at the plate. After
Bill Hasson's single loaded the bases,
Matt Rossi scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
Dane Dobson then scored Morgan on a sac fly and the game was tied.
Shipp took the lead for good in the fifth plating three runs to win the game 5-2.
Clarion had two hits each from Morgan, Hasson and Dobson.
In game two Shippensburg used a ten run second to roll to a 12-0 win over the Eagles.
Mike Dunn was the starter in game two going 1.1 innings while giving up 7 runs on 7 hits.
Kevin Gnacinski did not record an out but gave up three runs, and
Sam Skraba and Bill Ruhland tossed the final 4.2 innings.
Clarion will play a single game at Shippensburg n Sunday before the Spring Trip comes to a close.
