FLORENCE, S.C. – Despite a nice Game One pitching performance by
Mark White and a home run in Game Two by
Ken Morgan, the Clarion University baseball team dropped a twin bill at Francis Marion Wednesday afternoon losing 2-0 in Game One and 10-1 in Game Two.
In the first game, White threw a gem allowing just two earned runs in six innings of work on eight hits and three walks while striking out two.
Clarion had three hits in the game including a double by
Jerico Weitzel. Francis Marion scored a run in the second and another one in the fifth.
In the second game, Morgan hit a solo home run n the top of the second to stake Clarion to a 1-0 lead. But Francis Marion scored three times in the bottom of the inning, three times in the bottom of the third and four times in the sixth.
Weitzel and
Bill Hasson each had hits in the game for Clarion in addition to Morgan's homer.
Jon Roncolato took the loss going 2 1/3 innings allowing six runs, three of them earned, on eight hits while striking out one.
Seth Peterson threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless and hitless relief with three strikeouts.
Corbin Ragley went 1/3 of an inning allowing four earned runs on five hits and
Bill Ruhland threw 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief.
Clarion (2-5) returns to action at 1 p.m. Thursday with a doubleheader at UNC-Pembroke.
