Game Two Box Score
INDIANA – IUP scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game Two to stun Clarion and sweep a doubleheader from the visiting Golden Eagles Thursday afternoon in Indiana.
The Crimson Hawks (17-21 overall, 9-9 PSAC West) won the second game 4-3 after trailing 3-0 after five innings and took Game One 5-3.
In the second game, Clarion (8-25, 6-12) grabbed a 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning.
Josh Beimel had an RBI single in the inning,
Jerico Weitzel added a sacrifice fly and a run also scored on an error.
Pat Golden made that lead stick up through five innings of shutout baseball, but IUP got to the Golden Eagle hurler in the sixth scoring two runs to cut Clarion's lead to 3-2.
Then in the seventh, IUP got to Clarion closer
Eric Panko scoring twice to get the win. An RBI single by Andrew Welch with no outs tied the game, and Frank Sirolli's one-out sacrifice fly with the bases loaded won the game.
Panko took the loss in Game Two tossing one inning and allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk. Golden had his second straight strong outing going 5 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out two.
Weitzel led Clarion's Game Two offense going 2-for-3 with the RBI.
Scott Berkes was 2-for-4 and Dobson was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
IUP took Game One 5-3, as
Mike Dunn took the loss for Clarion pitching 4 2/3 innings allowing five earned runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out one.
Clarion's offense was paced by
Ken Morgan and
Eric Grejda who had two hits and an RBI each. Weitzel was 1-for-2 and was on base three times with a walk and being hit by a pitch. He scored two runs.
Clarion and IUP will hook up in another doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Friday at Butler's Pullman Park.
