DUNN THROWS GEM BUT CAL SWEEPS DH FROM CLARION

Ken Morgan was 2-for-3 in Game Two

BUTLER – Clarion's Mike Dunn threw his second consecutive gem, but it wasn't enough to help Clarion avoid a sweep from homestanding California in a PSAC West doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Butler's Pullman Park.

Clarion (5-18 overall, 3-5 PSAC West) dropped Game One 8-0 and then couldn't push a run across in Game Two to help Dunn, who allowed just one run in six innings, and lost 1-0.

Dunn, a freshman who has allowed just two runs and six hits in his past 13 innings of work, went the six innings Saturday allowing one earned run in the fourth inning. He allowed three hits while not walking a batter and striking out four. He has walked just two and has struck out 12 in his last two starts while going 1-1.

Clarion, which was held to two hits in Game One – singles by Bill Hasson and Scott Berkes, got four hits in the second game including Hasson's second single of the day. Matt Rossi added a double, and Ken Morgan was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

In Game One, Cal used a three-run first and a three-run sixth to collect all but two of its runs.

Sam Skraba took the loss for Clarion going 1 1/3 innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits. T.J. Anderson followed going 3 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits and walk. Matt Warhola finished up going one inning and allowing three earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one.

Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts a doubleheader with Cal (16-12, 6-7).

NOTES – The game was played at Butler's Pullman Park because California is without a home field at the moment. The Vulcans home field of Consol Energy Park in Washington was resodded over the winter and is not yet playable.
