(CLARION, PA.): Bloomsburg's Eddie Matteo rushed for 179 yards and 5 td's and All-American Franklyn Quiteh carried for 114 yards as the ninth ranked Huskies ran past Clarion 45-10 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

th in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll, raised their record to 2-0 while Clarion dropped to 0-2.
A crowd of 3,700 on Veterans/First Responders Appreciation Day at Clarion, watched the Golden Eagles get on the scoreboard first led by
Patrick Graham-Murphy's 53-yard kickoff return to give Clarion the ball at the Bloomsburg 41.

Tyler Ruark came on to boot a 23-yard field goal and Clarion led 3-0 at 12:42 of the first.
Bloomsburg drove 66 yards in 10 plays to the Clarion 3, but the Golden Eagle defense stiffened and Dan Fisher tied the game 3-3 at 7:57 of the first when he booted a 20-yard field goal.
The Huskies took the lead for good early in the second quarter driving 76 yards in only five plays. Matteo's 40 yard run on the first play from scrimmage and a Clarion personal foul took the ball to the Eagle 21. Five plays later Matteo scored on an 8-yard run and Bloomsburg led 10-3 with 11:23 left in the second.
Clarion tried to answer on its next drive, going from its own 36 to the Bloomsburg 12. Again the drive stalled and Ruark came on to try a 29-yard field goal, but missed the kick to the left.
The Huskies scored on an 80-yard drive and capped it off when Matteo scored from 1 yard out with 36-seconds left in the second and Bloom led 17-3 at halftime.
The Huskies made a statement on its first drive of the second half going 60 yards in three plays, all on the ground, as Matteo capped the drive with a 14-yard td run and Bloom led 24-3 with 14:20 left in the third.
Matteo scored on on a 22-yard run with 9:43 left in the third, and again on a 38-yard run with 8-seconds left in the third at Bloomsburg jumped ahead 38-3.
Bloomsburg's last score came when Ryan Maggs rushed for 9 yards to the goal line, fumbled the bal into the endzone, and Nicholas DeLuca recovered for the td at 7:41 of the fourth.
Clarion's final score came with 3:50 remaining on a 39-yard pass from
Ben Fiscus to
Jon Reid. The Eagles drove 86 yards in 9 plays for the score. The td play was a streak route down the left sideline and Fiscus lofted a perfect pass to Reid who grabbed the ball on his finger tips at the 5 and ran into the endzone for the score.
Clarion had 327 yards of total offense in the game including 156 yards rushing and 171 yards passing. Fiscus completed 14 of 32 passes for 171 yards and 1 td with 3 interceptions. He also rushed 15 times for 41 yards.
Brandon Akins was the leading rusher with 43 yards on 9 carries, while
Tarrean Barrett grabbed 4 passes for 40 yards. Reid, who caught the 39-yard td pass, had 3 grabs for 54 yards.
Josh Stegena led the defense with 11 tackles, while
Shawn Sopic,
Nate Sipes and
James Eckels had 9 each.
Barrington Morrison had 2 tfl's and 1 sack.
Bloomsburg rushed for 442 yards and totaled 536 yards of offense on the day.
All-America running back Franklyn Quiteh rushed for 114 yards on 17 carries in the first half, but was injured before intermission and did not return. Eddie Matteo rushed 17 times for 179 yards and 5 td's, while qb Pat Carey completed 8 of 15 aerials for 94 yards.
Bloomsburg visits IUP on Thursday night in a nationally televised game with kickoff at 8 p.m. Clarion hits the road to Shippensburg next Saturday to take on the Red Raiders at 1 p.m.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion's Veterans/First Responders Appreciation Day was a big success… Clarion University joined with Clarion County, Clarion Borough, Clarion Chamber and VFW Post 2145 and Post Director Don Montgomery for a Parade and Remembrance Ceremonies while recognizing the tenth anniversary of 9/11… 40 units – including ten fire companies (Clarion, Sligo, Limestone, Washington Twp., Rimersburg, St. Petersburg, New Bethlehem, Shippenville Elk, Knox & Farmington Twp.), PA. State Police and Clarion Borough Police, Clarion County Sheriff, Clarion Hospital EMS, Clarion VFW and American Legion Posts, Rimersburg VFW and American Legion Posts, Clarion University Marching Band, Clarion US Army Recruiting Company, Pa. National Guard in Oil City, Pa. National Guard in Ford City, Clarion University ROTC, Clarion University AFSCME, Clarion VFW Ladies Auxiliary and many individuals participated in the parade that stepped off at 11 a.m.
Special guests in the Parade and Remembrance Ceremonies, which started at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, were Romayne McGinnis, mother of PFC Ross McGinnis; and David C. Curran, father of SPC Carl Curran, who have given the ultimate sacrifice… Sgt. Joseph M. Garrison, who was recently killed in Afghanistan, was also honored during the ceremonies. Special guest John Laursen, retired officer of the Port Authority of N.Y./N.J., who worked on 9/11 and who lost 37 Port Authority comrades on 9/11, participated in the event to honor the fallen of 9/11.
Speaking at the Remembrance Ceremony were Clarion President Dr. Karen Whitney, Clarion County Commissioner Chair Dave Cyphert, State Representative Donna Oberlander and Retired NY/NJ Port Authority Officer John Laursen. M.C. of the event was Clarion VFW Post 2145 commander Don Montgomery.
