Josh Beimel (Kersey) had three hits and
Ken Morgan (Sr. Bridgeville) had two hits including a home run, but it wasn't enough as Millersville exploded for 8 runs in the seventh to defeat the Golden Eagles 14-5 in a single game played on Saturday.
Held at Marauder Park, Clarion's record went to 1-4, while Millersville raised its mark to 8-5.
Clarion jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when
Jerico Weitzel (Sr. Ridgway) and
Matt Rossi (Sr. Monroeville) walked, and with two outs,
Ken Morgan walked to load the bases.
Nick Maskrey (So. Cranesville) singled to right for two rbi's.
Millersville responded with two in the bottom of the first to tie the game, but the Eagles went ahead 3-2 in the top of the third when Morgan homered to left field.
Clarion starting and losing pitcher
Mark White yielded a four run third inning to put the Marauders in front 6-3.
Clarion pulled to within 6-5 with single runs in the fourth and the seventh. In the fourth Rossi doubled and scored on a double from
Ken Morgan. In the seventh
Bill Hasson homered to left, his second home run in two days, to bring the Eagles to within 6-5.
Millersville exploded for 8 runs in the seventh inning to put the game away.
Clarion totaled 10 hits and 6 walks on offense, but left 14 runners on base.
Clarion resumes its Spring trip on Tuesday when the Golden Eagles visit Erskine College in Due West, S.C.
