GOLDEN EAGLES START PSAC WEST PLAY 2-0

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Clarion University baseball team started PSAC West play with a sweep of Lock Haven in Due West, S.C. Friday afternoon.
 
The Golden Eagles (3-7 overall, 2-0 PSAC West) beat the Bald Eagles 5-3 in Game One and then came back and got a 7-4 win in Game Two.
 
In both games, Clarion broke ties later in the game to get the victories.
 
In Game One, the Golden Eagles were tied at two after five innings before scoring three in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. Brandon Slater picked up the win giving up three hits and three runs, and Seth Peterson came in and closed the game in the top of the seventh after Lock Haven had platted a run.
 
Then in Game Two Clarion broke a four-all tie with three straight runs in the fifth and sixth. Mike Dunn got the win getting a complete-game win allowing four runs on eight hits and not allowing a hit in the final three innings.
 
In the first game, Jerico Weitzel and Ken Morgan each had a pair of hits including a double by Weitzel. Matt Rossi and Kasey Clinton also had doubles, while Weitzel drove home two and Morgan and Clinton one each.
 
Rossi then smacked a three-run home run in the bottom of the first of the second game and finished the game with four RBIs and a pair of hits. Weitzel had three singles and an RBI, Morgan had an RBI double and Jon Roncolato also had an RBI.  
 
Clarion and Lock Haven will meet against Saturday in Due West, S.C.
