(Clarion, Pa.) Clarion's Michaela Hardy (Jr. Greenland, N.H.) was a double winner on Thursday but it wasn't enough, as the Golden Eagle Women's Tennis team lost a 7-2 decision to Grove City at the Campbell Courts.
Clarion's overall record is now 6-4 (0-1 PSAC-West).
In singles action, Jaclyn Metzger was defeated Stacy Moon at No. 1 by a 7-5, 7-6, 7-3 score. Megan Bettwy was defeated by Megan Bennett 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 2; Madeline Robinson lost to Christina Bedi 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No.3; Lauren Rhine was defeated by Reena Barnett 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4; Brittany Buchheit lost to Caroline McGuire 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5; and Michaela Hardy defeated Emily Buurma 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6. Coach Sabatose said, “There were many close matches that could have changed the outcome of the match.”
In doubles play, Metzger and Caitlin Clemons lost to Moon and Bennett 8-3 at No. 1; Bettwy and Rhine lost to Barnett and McGuire 8-3 at No. 2; and Robinson and Hardy defeated Bedi and Lauren Troxel 8-1 at No. 3.
Clarion will travel to California University of Pennsylvania Friday for a conference match. Start time has been changed to 2:30pm and will be held at Glen Creek Tennis Club at South Park.
