Box Score 2 CLARION –
Jon Kemmer had yet another monster day, but it was not enough to power Clarion as they dropped a pair to Kutztown 4-0, and 6-0.
Kemmer was a combined 5-5 with three doubles, two singles, and two walks on the afternoon. His five hits accounted for half of Clarion's ten hits on the day.
In game one, Kutztown (26-12, 9-7) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2
nd as Travis Kreitz ripped a double off Clarion (11-25, 8-12) starter
Seth Peterson to left center. Kreitz moved to third on a Corey Buletza single and then scored on a Brad Stoudt groundout.
The Golden Bears struck again in the top of the 3
rd when Brandon Hickey drew a walk. Hickey advanced to second on a wild pitch and was driven home by Cody Montz.
The score remained at 2-0 until the top of the 7
th when Stoudt reached on a bunt single. Todd Rubendall then singled, moving Stoudt to second. Sean McCormick singled to load the bases for Montz who singled, driving home Stoudt and Rubendall.
Montz was the star of game one for Kutztown going 3-4 with 3 RBI.
Kemmer had a line-drive single in the bottom of the 1st, walked in the 4
th, and hit a one-out double to left center in the 6
th. He was 2-2, while the rest of the lineup was 2-23, amounting to a .086 average.
Peterson worked a complete game allowing four runs on eight hits, three strikeouts and one walk.
Game two saw Kutztown jump out to a 1-0 lead in the 3
rd as Stoudt tripled to right center and was driven home by Montz, who tallied his 4
th RBI of the day. Kutztown added two runs in the 5
th, one in the 6
th, and two in the 7
th en route to a 6-0 victory.
The Golden Bears used five pitchers to hold Clarion to 6-27 hitting. Kemmer had three of those six hits, two for doubles, one for a single and also drew a walk.
The 5-5 performance boosted Kemmer's batting average to a hefty .394 on the season.
Clarion travels to Erie Friday for a home-and-home series with Mercyhurst. The Golden Eagles return to Memorial Stadium Saturday for a doubleheader against the Lakers at 1 and approximately 3:30.
