nd minute to help the Clarion University women's soccer team get a key 1-1 road tie at East Stroudsburg Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm very pleased with the result," Clarion head coach Rob Eaton said. "It's the best we have played in a couple of weeks. We had much more control of the ball today."
The Golden Eagles (3-3-3 overall, 3-3-3 PSAC) trailed East Stroudsburg (5-2-1, 5-2-1) 1-0 after Sammi Jo Hughes had put the Warriors ahead with a tally in the 49
th minute.
But Clarion earned the corner kick, and the freshman delivered her second goal of the year.
"It was a battling performance to come from behind," Eaton said. "It was nice to get Tirzah her second goal, and to play well with so many key players out, I'm very, very happy. It was a key point in the league."
Laura Saussol played outstanding in goal again for the Golden Eagles making 19 saves to preserve the tie, and Eaton also lauded the play of
Nikita Bonnell as well.
"Our best player was Nikita," Eaton sadi. "She is putting up a fantastic performance from several positions."
The tie keeps Clarion in a tie for eighth place in the PSAC pending Shippensburg's outcome with Millersville Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles were tied with Ship and Edinboro with 12 points, although both had played two fewer games before Ship took the field for its game. The top eight teams make the PSAC Playoffs.
Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts West Chester
NOTES – The game marked Clarion fifth contest in the last six and its third in a row on the road. Four of the Golden Eagles next five matches are at Memorial Stadium.
