Box Score CLARION, Pa. – Behind second half goals from
Tirzah Blackstone and
Nikita Bonnell, the Clarion University women's soccer team fought back to tie Lock Haven 2-2 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
"We put a lot of new players on the field in the second half," said Clarion head coach Rob Eaton. "We didn't scream or shout at halftime, the girls knew we had to play better."
In the first half, Lock Haven scored a pair of goals during a six minute span to take an early 2-0 lead. First, Erin McGrenaghan scored in the 33
rd minute and Madison Taylor followed that up with a goal in the 39
th minute.
Lock Haven (4-12-2 overall, 3-11-2 PSAC) went on to outshoot the Golden Eagles 13-3 in the first half.
In the second half, Clarion wasted no time getting on the board. Blackstone scored an unassisted goal in the 47
th minute to cut the lead to 2-1.
Then in the 76
th minute, Bonnell scored to tie the game at two.
Kathleen Warner got the assist on the goal.
"I was pleased that
Nikita Bonnell and
Tirzah Blackstone looked dangerous as forwards," said Eaton. "I think we can take a lot of positives away from this match as a whole."
Both Clarion and Lock Haven had shots on goal late in match but neither team had a legitimate scoring chance down the stretch.
Lock Haven outshot Clarion 3-2 in the overtime periods.
Clarion goalkeeper
Laura Saussol finished with 12 saves in the match while her counterpart Dana Wozniak had 6.
Aubrey Monte led the way for the Clarion offense with three shots while
Alissa Spencer, Bonnell, and Warner all finished with two a piece.
The Golden Eagles finish the season 4-9-4 overall while going 3-9-4 in the PSAC.
