Nick Maskrey and Bill Hasson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLARION LOSES NON-CONFERENCE DH AGAINST IUP

(Johnstown, Pa.):  Clarion junior catcher Nick Maskrey (Cranesville) pounded out five hits overall and senior Bill Hasson (Sr. Franklin) had three hits in game one, but the Golden Eagle baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against IUP on Sunday by scores of 4-2 and 22-5 in non-league play.

The games were played at a neutral site – Point Stadium in Johnstown. Clarion dropped to 0-6 on the season, while IUP raised its record to 6-4. The non-conference dh was a way for both teams to try and get some games played prior to the start of PSAC-West play.

In game one, Clarion junior pitcher Caleb McGary (Curwensville) took the loss pitching 5 strong innings, giving up 4 runs while striking out 2. He gave up three runs in the first, two unearned, then settled down and only gave up 1 more tally in the bottom of the fifth. Sam Skraba pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

Clarion's two runs came in the sixth when Derek Danver (So. Clearfield) and teammate Jon Roncolato (Jr. Meadville) singled to put runners at first and third. Bill Hasson doubled the duo home to make it 4-2, but the Eagles couldn't push any additional runs across and lost the game 4-2.

Hasson had two singles and a double, while Nick Maskrey also had two hits for Clarion in game one.

In game two IUP was the visitor on the scoreboard and the Crimson Hawks scored in every inning on their way to a 22-5 victory over Clarion.  Roncolato was the starter and losing pitcher in game two. He went two innings and yielded 6 runs. Eight additional pitchers took the mound for the Golden Eagles giving up 16 runs on 16 hits.

Nick Maskrey was 3 for 3 in game two, and ended up 5 for 6 on the day.

Clarion is scheduled to play at Seton Hill on Wednesday.
