Box Score 2 GREENSBURG, Pa. – Despite scoring a season-high eight runs in Game Two and allowing just three hits in Game One, the Clarion University baseball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Seton Hill Thursday falling by scores of 6-2 and 15-8.
In Game Two, Clarion and Seton Hill were tied at five after 3 ½ innings before the Griffins exploded for 10 runs in their final three at bats to go up 15-5. The Golden Eagles tried to rally in the seventh scoring three times to set the final score.
Bill Hasson led Clarion's offense in Game Two with a pair of doubles going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Derek Danver also had a two-run double in his only at bat while going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Joe Holmberg added a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and two runs scored, while
Drew Pirritano was 2-for-5 with two RBIs out of the lead off spot.
Brett Sutika added a double and was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Shane Sullivan took the Game Two loss in relief of
Ryan Voisey. Sullivan pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing three runs, all earned, on four hits. Voisey went 1+ innings allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits while striking out one.
Also on the mound for the Golden Eagles in the second game were
Cameron Damski (2/3 IP, 3 ER, 3 H),
Ken DiBucci (0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER),
Alex Borofski (1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K) and
Kevin Gnacinski (0.2 IP, 1 H).
In Game One, Seton Hill scored six runs despite only managing three hits. The Griffins were helped by eight Clarion walks, two Golden Eagle errors an a hit batter.
Seton Hill led 4-0 after two innings thanks to a three-run second before Clarion got a run in the fourth to make it 4-1. But Seton Hill scored two in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-1 before Clarion finished off the scoring with a run in the fifth.
Danver smacked a home run for the Golden Eagles, the first homer of the year for Clarion, and went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Pirritano was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Voisey was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Jordan Mesoraco also had a hit for the Golden Eagles.
Josh Ponsoll took the loss for Clarion going three innings and allowing six runs, all earned, on two hits and six walks while striking out one. Gnacinski pitched two scoreless innings of relief allowing a hit, a walk and a hit batter while striking out two. DiBucci finished off with a scoreless inning of relief allowing a walk and striking out one.
Clarion returns to action with a doubleheader at Millersville Friday.
