PIRRITANO HAS FOUR HITS BUT BASEBALL DROPS TWO TO POINT PARK

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Despite a four-hit afternoon from Drew Pirritano, the Clarion University baseball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Point Park Tuesday.
 
The Golden Eagles dropped Game One 14-2 and Game Two 6-0.
 
Pirritano was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run scored in Game One then went 2-for-3 with two more singles in the nightcap.
 
In the first game, Point Park (24-11) scored in every inning platting two in the first, two in the second, five in the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
 
Clarion's runs game in the sixth and the seventh.
 
In the sixth, Pirritano led off with a single to center and moved to second on an error by the centerfielder. He then stole third and scored on a two-out single by Bill Hasson.
 
The seventh inning saw Mike Lockhart, who was 2-for-3 in the game, single to left-center with one out and move to third on a single up the middle by Tim Staub. He then scored on an error on the Point Park catcher.
 
Kevin Gnacinski started and took the loss for the Golden Eagles (1-23) going 2 2/3 innings and allowing nine runs, all earned, on 11 hits while striking out one. Ken DiBucci went a 1/3 of an inning allowing two runs, both earned, on one hit and three walks while Cameron Damski threw the final three innings allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits and a walk and three strike outs.
 
In Game two, Point Park broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the fourth and then added four in the fifth before finishing off the scoring with a run in the sixth.
 
Clarion managed two runners in scoring position in the game with Justin Smith at second in the fifth and Nick Maskrey at second in the sixth but couldn't score.
 
The Golden Eagles (1-23) did have five hits in the game with Smith doubling in the fifth with one out, Hasson singling in the fourth with one out and Brett Sutika leading off the sixth with a single in addition to Pirratano's two base knocks.
 
Shane Sullivan took the loss going 4 1/3 innings allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out two. Sam Skraba finished up going 1 2/3 innings allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out two.
 
Clarion returns to action with a PSAC doubleheader at IUP Friday with Game One starting at 1 p.m.
