Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Clarion University baseball team earned a split at Lock Haven Friday afternoon to give the Golden Eagles their second win of the season.
Clarion picked up 11 hits in game one which gave them the 7-3 victory.
There was not much offense in game two as Lock Haven went on to hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give them the 1-0 victory.
In Game one, Lock Haven jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Clarion bounced back in the top half of the second when
Mike Lockhart scored on an error to tie the game.
Clarion added to their lead in the third when Lockhart reached on an error.
Derek Danver and
Jordan Mesoraco scored on the play.
In the fourth, Mesoraco reached second base on an error which allowed
Joey Gierlak to score to give Clarion a 4-2 lead. Lock Haven added a run in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the Golden Eagle lead to 4-3.
In the fifth, a
Josh Ponsoll RBI double followed by an RBI single from Gierlak gave Clarion a 6-3 lead.
The Golden Eagles were able to add another run in the seventh on an RBI from Ponsoll.
Tyler Delval was able to close out in the game in the seventh to give the Golden Eagles the victory.
Delval picked up his first win of the season as he went all seven innings while giving up seven hits, three runs (two earned), and struck out two batters.
Mesoraco, Danver, and Ponsoll combined for seven of the eleven Clarion hits. Ponsoll added two RBI's while also
scoring a run.

Nick Maskrey,
Joey Lopez, and Gierlak all added a hit each for the Golden Eagles.
Lock Haven (16-26) pitcher Madison Neddo went all seven innings and picked up the loss. Of the seven runs Neddo gave up, only two were earned as Lock Haven combined for six errors in the game.
In game two, there was not much offense at all. Gierlak went 2 for 3 with two singles in the game while Mesoraco added the only other Golden Eagle hit.
Clarion's best chance to score came in the top half of the sixth when
Drew Pirritano reached on an error. Later in the inning, he advanced to second on a fielder's choice and stole third base. Unfortunately, the inning came to an end on a groundout by Danver.
In the bottom of the seventh, Lock Haven led off the inning with a single and a passed ball. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner over to third with only one out.
Brett Whitman escaped any damage by getting the next two batters to pop up.
But in the eighth, Lock Haven picked up a pair of two out singles to drive across the winning run to give them the 1-0 victory.
Parker Watson earned up the victory for Lock Haven while Whitman picked up the loss for Clarion. Whitman went 7.2 innings while giving up nine hits, one run, and struck out two batters.
Clarion improves their overall record to 2-40 on the season and 2-20 in the PSAC West.
The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow afternoon where it will host Lock Haven for a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m. to close out the season.
