Box Score CALIFORNIA, Pa. – California (Pa.) scored four goals in a span of just over 25 minutes in the second half to hand the Clarion University soccer team its first loss of the year, 4-0, at Cal Saturday evening.
The Golden Eagles (2-1-1), which had trouble generating much offense being outshot 22-1 in the contest, was able to stay even with the Vulcans in the first half thanks to three saves by junior keeper
Laura Saussol.
But Cal broke through with two quick goals from Chelsea Crockett early in the second half to take control of the game.
Crockett scored from just outside the box late in the 53
rd minute to give the Vulcans a 1-0 lead and three minutes later took a pass from Marissa Neifert and beat Saussol from just inside the box to make it 2-0.
About four minutes later, Kara Novotny put the game away with a marker from in close before Moran Bullock scored in the 80
th minute making it 4-0.
Saussol ended with six saves, while
Alyssa Liebdzinski had Clarion's lone shot, which was off target.
The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday at Millersville before returning home to Memorial Stadium for a Noon game against Shippensburg Saturday. It will be Clarion River Valley Strikers Day.
