Box Score JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Behind a pair of first-half goals from
Mackenzie Stover, the Clarion University women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon.
"I'm very pleased," Clarion head coach Rob Eaton said. "It was just an all-around good performance from our team."
Stover started the scoring early connecting on a shot from inside the box in the fifth minute to give the Golden Eagles (2-0 overall, 2-0 PSAC) a 1-0 lead.
Alyssa Liebdzinski had the assist.
A little less than 10 minutes later, in the 15
th minute, Stover took a long pass from
Megan Lawson and scored on a breakaway to make it 2-0.
Liebdzinski then capped the Golden Eagle scoring in the second half scoring in the 60
th minute off a feed from
Jordan Bahr to make it 3-0.
That was more than enough for goalie
Laura Saussol, who recorded her second consecutive shutout making three saves.
Clarion returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Slippery Rock.
NOTES – It was the first time Clarion has scored three or more goals since netting four in a 4-1 win over East Stroudsburg Sept. 10, 2010 … The Golden Eagles are 2-0 for the second time in three seasons and 2-0 in the PSAC since 2007.
