(Abderdeen, Maryland): Clarion started its 2014 Spring trip with a doubleheader split against #20 ranked East Stroudsburg in Abderdeen, Maryland on Friday, losing game one 11-2 but rallying in game two for a 9-5 victory.
Played at the Ripken Baseball Complex, the win for Clarion puts the Golden Eagles at 2-2 on the season, while East Stroudsburg, ranked #20 in the nation in the latest baseball writers poll, moves to 10-3 this season.
In game two freshman pitcher
Kane McCall (Rimersburg/Union) posted a complete game victory, pitching 7 innings while yielding 5 runs on 6 hits with two walks and 2 strikeouts. The win gives McCall a 2-0 season record
The hero at the plate for Clarion was freshman
Tyler Falk (Fombell/Riverside). With Clarion trailing 5-3 in the fifth inning, Falk doubled with the bases loaded knocking in three runs and giving Clarion a 6-5 lead. Clarion scored two more in the fifth and one in the seventh to win 9-5.
Mitch Holmberg (Fr. Wilcox/Johnsonburg) and Nick Maskrey (Sr. Cranesville/Northwestern) also had rbi's for Clarion.
In game one
Brett Whitman was the starter and loser for Clarion. He pitched 4.1 innings giving up 8 runs, 6 earned, with 6 hits. ESU scored 6 runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead.
Alex Borofski (So. Canonsburg/Seton LaSalle)pitched 2.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.
Clarion will have Saturday off and play Limestone College on Sunday at 1pm.
