BASEBALL WINS EXTRA-INNINGS CLASH AT MONTGOMERY

Pictured: Mason McGuire hit two home runs in the victory.

Box Score GERMANTOWN, Md. – The Clarion baseball team won its second straight with a total effort on Thursday, as the Golden Eagles defeated Montgomery College 9-6 in extra innings on the tail end of their spring break trip.  Clarion is now 3-6 on the season.

Mason McGuire put on a show at the plate, going 3-of-5 with a pair of two-run home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.  Tyler Falk added a dinger of his own to snap a 6-6 tie in the top of the 10th, putting the Golden Eagles ahead for good, and Clarion added two insurances runs to seal the deal.  Matt Kamenicky went 2-of-2 with a double and a sacrifice bunt, helping the Golden Eagles tack on at the end of the game.

Sean White got the start and pitched six innings, holding the Raptors to just two runs; he got just a no-decision, though, as Montgomery tied the score at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Kane McCall pitched the last four innings to pick up the victory.

Clarion got off on the right foot when McGuire led the game off with a single, reaching second on a sac bunt from Josh Ponsoll and eventually scoring from third on a groundout from Mike Lockhart.  McGuire brought the thunder in the second inning, launching a three-run home run with one out to score Kamenicky and Brady Andrews, making it 4-2.

McGuire added another longball in the fourth inning, this time a two-run shot with Dillon Wolbert aboard, but the Raptors cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 6-3 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.  Stuart Paz pulled Montgomery back into the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game and sending it to extra innings.

Falk saw to it the stalemate didn't last long, hitting a solo homer to make it 7-6 in favor of Clarion.  Austin Mike followed him with a double and Kamenicky bunted him over to third; Wolbert delivered a single to plate Mike and make it 8-6.  Ponsoll closed the inning with an RBI single to score Wolbert, and McCall set the Raptors down in order in the bottom half of the inning to take the win.
