HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Clarion women's tennis team wrapped its spring break trip on Thursday, as the Golden Eagles battled but could not defeat Spring Arbor, falling 7-2 on the afternoon. With the loss the Golden Eagles are now 2-4 in dual matches this year.
Â
The highlight of the day came from
Maria Snyder at No. 2 singles, with the sophomore coming from behind to claim a victory over Mary-Kate McShane in a third-set tiebreaker. Snyder lost a close first set to McShane, falling behind 6-4, but dominated her in the second set to the tune of a 6-0 win. The two went to a 10-point match tiebreaker to decide the result and again Snyder dominated, winning the breaker 10-1 to take the victory.
Â
Vinisha Reddy won her second straight singles match and second in as many days, beating Morgan Keeler in the No. 5 singles match. Reddy went up a break on Keeler in the first set and rode that slight advantage to a 6-4 set win. She took control the rest of the way to pull out the victory, winning the second set by a 6-0 margin for the straight-sets win.
Â
Michelle Petrilla and
Sarah Robbins both had opportunities to force third sets in their matches, with Petrilla coming up just short in losing a second-set tiebreaker to Brianna VanRavenswaay. The breaker was close throughout but VanRavenswaay held on for a 7-4 result, taking the second set and the match. Robbins pushed Monika Wynne to a tiebreaker in the first set before losing, but also kept their match close in the second before falling 6-3.
