Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Clarion baseball team struggled in a pair of road losses on Tuesday afternoon, dropping both halves of a doubleheader to the Lock Haven Bald Eagles. The Golden Eagles fell by 2-1 and 5-2 scores on the afternoon and are now 3-12 overall, 0-6 in PSAC play.
Clarion's pitching staff did a good job of limiting the Bald Eagles in the early game, with
Doug Conrad throwing a complete game and allowing just two runs in six innings of action. He held Lock Haven to six hits and walked just one batter but was took the hard-luck loss in Game 1.
Alex Borofski allowed five runs in Game 2, though just two of them were earned, and
Jay Moog threw two hitless innings of relief to keep the Golden Eagles in the game.
Matt Kamenicky was the offensive leader for the Golden Eagles, going 2-for-5 in two games with a home run and a run scored. Five other Clarion players recorded hits in the contests Tuesday.
Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after a two-RBI single from Sam Kysor, but the Golden Eagles cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning thanks to Falk.
Mason McGuire led the inning off with a walk and advanced to third on a double from
John Finke. Falk grounded out to shortstop with one out but McGuire still capitalized, scoring from third to make it just a 2-1 game.
The Bald Eagles settled from there, though, and held Clarion off the board the rest of the way. Likewise, Conrad kept the Golden Eagles competitive by posting nothing but zeroes after the second inning, but Lock Haven came away with the Game 1 victory.
Clarion cut into an early Lock Haven lead in the second game as well, tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning.
Austin Mike hit a one-out single to reach base and stole second to get into scoring position. He advanced to third on a groundout from McGuire Kamenicky brought him home, hitting a single past the second baseman to tie the game.
Kamenicky struck in the fifth inning as well, hitting a one-out solo home run to reduce the Bald Eagles' lead to 3-2. Lock Haven responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, though, and shut the Golden Eagles down in the sixth and seventh to preserve the win.
