Box Score 2 INDIANA, Pa. – The Clarion baseball team played a pair of close division games on the road on Saturday, dropping games to the IUP Crimson Hawks by 6-2 and 7-6 scores. With the losses the Golden Eagles fall to 4-15 overall, 1-7 in PSAC West play.
Mike Lockhart drove in a team-best two runs over the course of two games, including a solo home run in Game 1 and an RBI single in Game 2.
Mason McGuire added a homer of his own, launching a bomb in the top of the fifth inning of the second game.
Tyler Falk was another standout in Game 2, going 2-of-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Golden Eagles' best effort came in the nightcap when they took a 6-4 lead over the Crimson Hawks with a three-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning.
John Finke scored the tying run after first reaching base on a walk and advancing to second when
Mitch Holmberg's sacrifice bunt was mishandled at first base, putting runners on first and second. Finke and Holmberg scored on a throwing error later in the inning to put the Golden Eagles ahead 5-4, and
Brian Laurito came around to score after a throwing error by the catcher on McGuire's steal attempt.
IUP countered, though, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Christian McClure scored on an error at the end of the game to deliver the win for the Crimson Hawks.
The Golden Eagles knotted the game up early with a two-run fourth inning. Falk plated
Austin Mike with an RBI double to put Clarion on the board, and Lockhart brought him around with a single to tie the game at 2-2.
Clarion trailed 3-0 early in the first game but cut the Crimson Hawks' lead to 3-1 by taking advantage of IUP miscues.
Zach Mathias hit a one-out single and ended up on third after a pair of wild pitches.
Josh Ponsoll brought him home with a two-out single to make it 3-1. Lockhart cut it to 4-2 with some thunder in the top of the fourth, hitting a solo home run to slice into the IUP lead. The Crimson Hawks added two more runs to pad their advantage.
