Box Score 2 WILSON, N.C. – The Clarion baseball team split a doubleheader to pick up its first win of the season on Saturday, falling 2-0 to St. Thomas Aquinas but beating West Virginia State 3-2 in extra innings. The Golden Eagles are now 1-2 on the season.

The second extra-inning game in as many days for the Golden Eagles came out in their favor as Clarion scored in the top of the 10th inning to take the win against the Yellow Jackets in the second game of the day. Tied at 2-2 entering the 10th,
Josh Ponsoll reached base on a one-out single. He scored the go-ahead run two batters later, coming around on an RBI double from
Mason McGuire. The Yellow Jackets threatened with runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning, but
Kyle Armagost fanned Trayvis Patterson struck out to end the game.

Armagost pitched all 10 innings for the Golden Eagles, getting the complete game and the win. He allowed six hits while striking out four and walking one. He knuckled down in the stretch run, retiring the Yellow Jackets in order in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.Â
Tyler Falk went 2-of-4 with a walk. Delval scored the game-tying run in the ninth inning, starting with a one-out walk.Â
Mike Lockhart and
John Finke each singled to load the bases, and
Matt Kamenicky drew a free pass to plate Delval. Finke recorded two hits in the win.

The Spartans got the better of the Golden Eagles in the early game, winning 2-0 by one-hitting Clarion over the course of nine innings. STAC scored two runs in the home side of the first for all the runs they would need in the game as Anthony Morris went the distance for the shutout. Mitchell Holmberg had the lone base hit for the Golden Eagles.Â
Sean White threw seven innings of two-run ball, while
Tiler Sadowski closed out the game for Clarion.
