SALEM, Va. – The Clarion women's tennis team fell in its first dual match of the spring season, dropping a 9-0 decision to Roanoke on Sunday afternoon.  The Golden Eagles are now 0-1 in the spring in 2016.
 
Maria Snyder and Jessica Kennelly put up the best fights in singles action against the Maroons, with each sending their respective matches to third sets thanks to wins in the second set.  Snyder had a good showing in the No. 2 singles match, taking the second set 6-2 after dropping the first 6-3 to Rhealyn Dinkins.  The two authored a close third set, with Dinkins just barely edging out Snyder 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.
 
Kennelly also came back from a one-set deficit, winning the second 6-3 after a close 6-4 decision in the first set by Emma Barker.  Barker eked out the win in No. 4 singles thanks to a 10-8 advantage in the breaker.  Sarah Robbins nearly took the No. 3 singles to a third set, falling in a second-set tiebreaker to Catherine Lee to lose 6-4, 7-6 (3).
 
Doubles action was also close, with the duo of Robbins and Kennelly falling in an extremely close No. 2 match to Barker and Kristen McDowell.  The Maroons took a close 9-7 decision as they took all three doubles matches on the afternoon.
