Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, WV. – Despite leading in both games, the Clarion baseball team dropped both games of a double header to West Virginia State, falling 4-2 in the early game, followed by a 2-1 walk-off loss in 10 innings in the nightcap.
The losses drop Clarion to 2-3 overall while West Virginia State improves to 3-2.
Game 1
Clarion got on the board first in the top of the fourth thanks to an infield single by
Nick Fugh that brought around
Will Constantin.
Devin Beverly followed with a bloop single to drive in
Chandler Palyas and make it 2-0 Clarion.
West Virginia State tied things up with a 2-out single in the bottom of the fourth to plate a pair of unearned runs. The Yellow Jackets then tacked on two more in the fifth to grab a 4-2 lead.
The Yellow Jacket bullpen made the lead hold up as they hung on for the 4-2 win.
Jeremy Frazier took the loss for the Blue and Gold hurling 4 innings allowing two earned runs and four hits while striking out four.
Beverly and Palyas led the offense for the Golden Eagles each picking up one hit a piece.
Game 2
Clarion fell in walk off fashion in extra innings in game 2 by a final score of 2-1.
West Virginia State's Trayvis Patterson singled with the bases load in the bottom of the tenth inning to win it for the Yellow Jackets.
Branden Schlick got the start on the mound for Clarion and was stellar, throwing 8.1 innings allowing just a single unearned run on 2 hits while fanning 7 batters. Freshman
Max Mari lined a two-out base hit to score
Dillon Wolbert from third and give Clarion a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. That lead would hold until the Yellow Jackets picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the 7
th to tie the game at 1-1. It would remain that way until Patterson's game-winner in the 10
th.
Kyle Thompson took over for Schlick in the 9
th, getting the final two outs before surrendering a leadoff double and a bunt base hit to start the 10

Chance Miranda was called on to face the left handed Yellow Jackets batter, but after a hit by pitch to load the bases, it would be Tom Connell to enter the game. Patterson lined the first pitch he saw from Connell up the middle for the deciding run.
Five players picked up hits for Clarion, but the Golden Eagles left 11 men on base and were unable to break through the Yellow Jacket bullpen.
As of now, Clarion will be off until March 9
th when they travel to Goldey Beacom for a double-header starting at 1pm.
