Box Score CLARION, Pa. – The Golden Eagle tennis team got its first dual win of the season on Saturday, defeating Thiel by a 5-2 score at Campbell Courts. Clarion (1-1) will host its final fall dual on Monday, when they welcome Grove City to Campbell Courts for a 4:30 pm start.
 
The Tomcats won the doubles session to take a 1-0 lead in the team match, but the Golden Eagles responded by winning five of the six singles matches on the court to take the team contest. Of those five wins, one required a second set tiebreaker and two others needed third sets to determine the victor. Hannah Schettler and Josie Beckerleg were the Clarion players to earn straight sets wins, taking the Nos. 3 and 6 matches respectively. Schettler won a tight first set against Payton Blankenbeckley and followed up with a decisive second for a 7-5, 6-3 win, while Beckerleg won by an identical score over Reagan Hayne.
 
Alayna McGovern responded to a tough test in the second set against Madeline DePalma, holding off her opponent in a second-set tiebreaker for a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win at No. 5 singles. Kali Aughenbaugh also bounced back in the No. 2 singles match, beating Sarah Haritos 10-6 in a third set after Haritos won the second set of their match handily. Savannah Buttery came back from a one-set deficit in the No. 4 singles match, beating Jordan Zee 6-2, 1-0 (8) in the last two sets for the win.
