YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –
Shelly Jones recorded one of the best indoor Shot Puts in program history and a number of other athletes authored impressive performances, as the Golden Eagle track & field team finished off their second day at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Youngstown State.
Â
Jones tied a PR in the Shot Put with a toss of 12.81m, placing sixth in the field and keeping her in sole possession of second place in the program's all-time performance list. Her mark of 12.81m trails only Kari Steuer's program record of 13.07m recorded in 2018. The mark came on her third attempt of the day.
Â
Elsewhere in the field,
Delaney Beard tied her previous best in the Triple Jump, matching last week's performance in Youngstown with a 10.78m mark. That remains fifth on the program's all-time performance list. That put her at ninth in the field.
Â
Freshman
Gabby Kutchma came up just a few seconds shy of hitting two PSAC qualifying standards in the distance events, but still enjoyed a solid day. She placed 15
th in the 800m with a time of 2:26.75, less than four seconds from the conference standard, and Kutchma also placed 15
th in the Mile with a 5:27.35. That was even closer, coming in less than three seconds from the standard.
Â
Those results of Saturday paired well with the work the Golden Eagles did on Friday night on the first day of the event.
Haley Schaller hit a PSAC qualifying standard in the 5000m with a PR of 18:32.35, while
Madison Brooks etched her name into the all-time record books at Clarion with an exemplary performance in the Weight Throw. Â
