ANDERSON, S.C. -Â The Golden Eagle baseball team concluded their season opening weekend on the road on Saturday, falling in a pair of contests to Anderson University. The Trojans won the first game 4-3 and the second game 13-2, dealing a pair of losses to Clarion (0-4).
Game 1: Anderson 4, Clarion 3
Recap: Clarion started the game hot, taking the lead in the top of the first inning after a Dan Fox triple to right center field allowed
Scott McManamon to score from first after he singled to right center field as Clarion took the lead 1-0. The Golden Eagles held the lead until the bottom of the third when Anderson scored two runs on three hits.Â
Clarion tied the game in the top of the fourth inning after
Caden Contant led the inning off with a triple to right center and
Daren Byers singled through the left side to score Contant on the very next at bat.Â
The score remained tied until the top of the seventh when Clarion tacked on the potential game winning run after a
Kasey Shughart double to left center and a Fox single put runners in scoring position. Content singled to left field driving in Shughart as Clarion led 3-2 heading into the final frame.Â
The Trojans picked up two runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead and capture the win in walkoff fashion.Â
Game 2: Anderson 13, Clarion 2
Recap: Anderson jumped on the Clarion hurlers early, striking for one run in the bottom of the first, but Clarion battled back scoring two runs in the top of the third courtesy of Contant SAC Fly and an error to take a 2-1 lead. The Trojans bats exploeded for four runs in the bottom of the third to break the game open 5-2, and piled the runs on from that point forward.Â
Scoring five runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth, Anderson managed to build a 13-2 lead on 11 hits and four Clarion errors. Clarion threatened the Trojan lead, but couldn't manage to push anymore runs across, stranding eight baserunners.Â
