ERIE, Pa. - The Clarion baseball team traveled north to Erie to close out game three and four of a four game series against the Mercyhurst Lakers. Clarion (4-14) dropped both ends of the double header by scores of 10-3 and 15-5. Clarion will head to Frostburg, Maryland on Tuesday to take on former head coach Anthony Williams and the Bobcats of Frostburg State.Â
Game 1: Mercyhurst 10, Clarion 3
Recap: The Lakers plated 10 runs on nine hits and two Clarion errors, using three homeruns in game one to build their lead.Â
Clarion answered with a pair homeruns of their own courtesy to one bat, as
Caden Contant homered to left field in the top of the third innning and in the top of the fifth inning when Contant sent a shot down the left field line to score
Griffin Snyder, making the score 7-3 in favor of the hosts Mercyhurst.Â
Clarion was unable to push anymore runs across though as the Lakers managed to shut down the Golden Eagles attack after the second homer from Contant.Â
Logan Schlegel got the nod for head coach
Doc Neiman on the mound, tossing 4,0 complete innings allowing seven runs on six hits, while striking out three Mercyhurst batters.Â
Contant paced the Clarion attack in game one, going 3 for 4 at the plate with a pair of dingers and three RBI's.Â
Game 2: Mercyhurst 15, Clarion 5
Recap: In game two, Mercyhurst used the long ball again, using three homers in the victory to score multiple runs in the third, the fourth and the fifth innings to pick up the win.Â
Clarion scored four runs in the top of the fifth courtesy of a
Kasey Shughart single and a fielding error, a passed ball a ground out and a single.Â
The Golden Eagles managed to plate one more run in the seventh after
Sam Economy scored on a wild pitch.Â
Bryan Layton earned the start for Clarion tossing just 1.0 innings of baseball adding one strikeout.Â
