DINWIDDIE, Va. --- The Golden Eagle baseball team finished up their second doubleheader of the weekend on Sunday, falling in both ends of a twinbill to Kutztown in Dinwiddie, Virginia. The Golden Bears won a dramatic Game 1 by a 4-3 score, before winning the second game 8-2.

Game 1: Kutztown 4, Clarion 3
Recap: The Golden Eagles opened up an early lead on Kutztown, scoring two quick runs off starter Dominic Proietto.
Mason Kepler hit a one-out single and stole second base, and Proietto hit
Daren Byers to put runners on first and second.
Scott McManamon drilled a single to center field to score Kepler, and Byers eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by
Caden Contant to make it 2-0.

The Golden Bears responded with a big hit in the home half of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Brian Fihn roped a double to left field to bring home three of his teammates, giving Kutztown a 3-2 advantage. The pitchers settled in from that point, with Clarion starter
Reilly Shafer throwing four shutout innings after the three-spot in the first.

Likewise, Proietto put up three more zeroes before giving way to Gavin Moretski, with the latter allowing the Golden Eagles to tie in the fifth inning.
Sam Economy led off the inning with a double and eventually came around to score on Byers' two-out RBI double, knotting things up at 3-3. Ethan Martini authored a dramatic moment in the bottom of the seventh inning, cracking a walk off home run against
Joe Rossi to lock up the win.

Byers and Economy recorded both of the Golden Eagles' extra base hits over the course of the morning. Kepler swiped his first base of the season. On the mound, Shafer finished with 5.0 innings pitched having allowed three runs and striking out four.
Logan Schlegel threw a shutout inning of relief in the sixth.

Game 2: Kutztown 8, Clarion 2
Recap: The Golden Bears were clicking on offense earl yin this game, with Mitchell Peers hitting two home runs – a solo shot in the first inning and a three-run job in the third – in his first two plate appearances of the game. The latter round-tripper made it a 6-0 game midway through the third inning as starter
Griffin Snyder was chased after 2.2 innings.

Anthony Tucci checked in and delivered 3.1 innings of one-run relief, with his only blemish coming on a Cole Regn sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Clarion still trailed 8-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Golden Eagles started to chip away at the Kutztown lead.
Brycen Dinkfelt walked with one out and
Erik Rank followed suit, setting up an RBI single from
Emerson Abromavage. Byers then hit a hard grounder to second base that scored Rank from third, but
Kasey Shughart grounded out in the subsequent at-bat to wrap the game.

Clarion finished with just four hits, with only two of those coming off starter Jake Skrocki. The bullpen was effective, with
Dan Miller combining with Tucci to allow just two runs in 4.1 total innings pitched.
