Tennis Opens PSAC West Play, Falls to Seton Hill

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle tennis team returned home to kick off their PSAC West season on Friday, falling by a 6-1 score to Seton Hill at Campbell Courts.

The highlight of the day came in the No. 1 singles match, where Davan Lion out-dueled Kasey Storkel to pick up the Golden Eagles' lone win of the day. Lion won a tight first set to open up the match, winning by a 6-4 score, but Storkel countered by winning the second set 6-3. That set up a third set tiebreaker, where Lion was able to hold off Storkel by a 10-5 score to clinch the win.

The Griffins won the remaining singles matches on the court, though the results were closer than the 6-1 score indicated. Josie Beckerleg also forced a third set tiebreaker in the No. 5 singles match, taking the second set from Julianna Begley by a 6-4 score. The third set tiebreaker was close, but Begley held on for a 10-7 win. Charlie Allison dropped a straight-sets decision to Sophia Solomon in the No. 6 singles match, but the sets themselves were close as Solomon won by a 6-3, 7-5 score.

Some of those close results were borne out in the doubles session as well. The duo of Allison and Alyson Fisher competed against Begley and Solomon in the No. 3 doubles match, with the Seton Hill pairing holding on for a 6-4 win. The Griffins won all three doubles matches to secure the opening point of the team match.
