PEPPER PIKE, Ohio --- The Golden Eagle soccer team kicked off first-year head coach
Jason Edwards' season debut with a scoreless draw on the road, as Clarion and Ursuline played to a 0-0 tie in the 2023 opener.

Both defensive sides were fairly successful in keeping the opposing offenses at bay, with just 10 combined shots on net between the two teams. In that instance the Golden Eagles got the better of the Arrows, with Clarion logging six shots on Ursuline keeper Morgan Demagall. Golden Eagle freshman
Sage Sherk got the shutout in her first career start, blanking the Arrows on four shots.

Jaci Bowser very nearly put the Golden Eagles ahead in the 13
th minute, ringing a shot off the top woodwork. Just 22 seconds later
Kylee Cross put her own attempt on net, forcing Demagall to make a save to her right-hand side to keep it scoreless.
Ciara DiMauro put an attempt on net in the 18
th minute but Demagall once again turned it away, and
Sam Felder was denied in the 27
th minute as the game remained scoreless.

On the Clarion end, Sherk stopped a shot by Kristina Spitzer in the 32
nd minute, and the Golden Eagles survived a corner kick in the 44
th minute to head into the halftime break scoreless. The teams exchanged shots in the early minutes of the second half, with
Kylee Cross and
Hailey Dobb peppering Demagall while Sherk stopped a shot from Alexis Biery. Amia Wilson had the last best chance for the Arrows, putting a shot on net that Sherk pulled in. Cross missed wide on a pair of attempted in the 85
th and 87
th minutes, though, sending the game to a draw.
