SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle tennis team took the doubles point to start the day but came up just a hair short of winning the team match, falling by a score of 4-3 to Lock Haven at the Central PA Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Golden Eagles started out the day with a thrilling win in the doubles session, winning both matches contested to take the opening score of the day. The No. 1 duo of
Alexis Strouse and
Davan Lion started things off with a close win, beating Mia Shuler and Christy McLean by a 7-5 score. The action in the No. 2 doubles match was even better, though, as the two sides were knotted up at six games apiece.
Â
That led to a tiebreaker for the doubles point, and in this case the Golden Eagles came out on top.
Josie Beckerleg and
Alyson Fisher won the tiebreaker by a 7-3 score, giving them the set win.
Â
Lock Haven got the better of the Golden Eagles in the singles session though, winning four of the six matches to rally for the win. Strouse won soundly at No. 2 singles, cruising past Olivia Anastos for a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Beckerleg defeated McLean in straight sets in the No. 4 singles match, winning the first set 6-3 before taking a closer 7-5 result in the second set.
