Tennis Drops Nailbiter vs. PSU - Altoona

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles women's tennis team dropped a nailbiter of a match at home on Saturday afternoon, falling in a 4-3 contest to Penn State – Altoona at Campbell Courts. Clarion won the doubles point and took two of the singles matches contested, but the Nittany Lions rallied for four singles wins to clinch the match.

Davan Lion enjoyed a 2-0 day on Saturday, teaming with Josie Beckerleg to win a tight doubles match and then cruising to a straight sets victory at No. 1 singles. Lion and Beckerleg defeated Rachel Stricek and Sienna Fell in No. 1 doubles, winning an exciting tiebreaker 7-5 to clinch the 7-6 match win. Polia Vladeva and Stephanie Juarez won a tight No. 2 doubles match to clinch the point for the Golden Eagles, beating Casey Burinskas and Abigail Morgan.

Lion continued her strong day with a win at No. 1 singles, beating Caitlin Blessel 6-0, 6-1 for a breezy victory. Taelyn Thomas got the other win in singles action, beating Daniel Fulton 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles match.

That would be the extend of the victories for the Golden Eagles, though, with the Nittany Lions edging them out in the remaining singles matches for the team win. Juarez and Fell had an exciting duel at No. 4 singles that could have decided the match for Clarion, with the two competitors swapping set wins to start. Fell edged Juarez 10-7 in the third set breaker.
