CLARION, Pa. — Clarion (2-7-1, 2-4-1) fell to seventh-ranked Gannon (9-0-1, 6-0-1) by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday evening at Memorial Stadium. Despite the result, the Golden Eagles displayed determination in the second half, scoring twice late in the match.
The opening half began with goalkeeper
Sage Sherk anchoring the Clarion defense as Gannon applied early pressure. The Golden Knights broke through in the 12th minute when Ella Fadale scored, followed by goals from Madison Miller in the 21st minute and another from Fadale at the 27-minute mark. Clarion pushed back offensively with attempts from
Evelyn Cook and
Madison Rose, but the first half closed with Gannon leading 5-0.
Clarion showed renewed energy after the break. Although Gannon added to their lead in the 57th minute through Amelya Bretz, the Golden Eagles continued to battle.
Paige Brewer sparked Clarion's first breakthrough in the 83rd minute after stealing a throw-in and sending a cross toward goal, where
Ciara DiMauro finished into the net. Less than a minute later, Clarion struck again as
Evelyn Cook gained possession from a 50/50 ball and dished to DiMauro, who set up
Marisa Colondrillo for a composed finish, cutting into the deficit.
Sherk finished with six saves while facing 23 total shots on goal. DiMauro stayed active offensively, taking three shots with two on target. Colondrillo registered three attempts, including one on frame, while Cook and Brewer each contributed to Clarion's sustained offensive pressure.
