PHILADELPHIA --- The Golden Eagles baseball team kicked off a four-game weekend on Saturday, taking a doubleheader split against Holy Family on the road. Clarion lost to the Tigers 2-1 in the first game before routing them 14-4 in the late game.
Â
Game 1: Holy Family 2, Clarion 1Â
Â
RECAP: The first game of the day was a quick, low-scoring affair as both teams zipped through the opposite lineups. Â The Golden Eagles were the first on the scoreboard, with
Tyler Boraski hitting a leadoff solo home run in the top of the third inning to make it 1-0. The Tigers got that run back in the home half of the inning, with Andy Rivera driving in a run with a grounder to third base.Â
Â
Holy Family scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Dalton Turner came home on an error in right field, making it a 2-1 lead. The Golden Eagles nearly took the lead in the half inning before when
Caden Contant and
Brody Hinkle reached on back-to-back walks, and were moved into scoring position on
Ethan Giangiulio's groundout. Hayden Ford got out of the jam with two strikeouts.Â
Â
Clarion nearly tied the score in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Griffin Snyder hit a one-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Snyder eventually made his way to third base but
Randy Carlo flew out for the final out of the inning.Â
Â
Game 2: Clarion 14, Holy Family 4Â
Â
RECAP: The Golden Eagle bats woke up in a hurry in the second game of the day, scoring seven runs over the first three innings en route to a 10-run victory on the road. Giangiulio drove in the first run, hitting a single through the middle of the infield to score Snyder, and
Jack Hurda cleared the bases with a three-run homer to left field to give Clarion a 4-0 lead.Â
Â
Carlo added onto the early lead with an RBI single in the second inning, raising the advantage to 5-0, and the Golden Eagles put up another crooked number in the top of the third inning. This time it came down to untimely errors by the Tigers, with Hurda crossing home plate after two failed pickoff attempts that advanced him from second base.
Tyson Gill scored the other run, taking off for home on a steal.Â
Â

Jaxson Wood and
Caden Contant drew bases loaded walks in the top of the seventh while Carlo hit an RBI grounder to third base to round out the scoring.Â
