Baseball Drops Road Doubleheader at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles baseball team lost a pair of games to Seton Hill to open a four-game series with the Griffins, dropping an 11-0 decision in the first game of the doubleheader before falling 3-1 in the second.

Game 1: Seton Hill 11, Clarion 0
RECAP: The Griffins silenced the Golden Eagles' bats in the first game of the day, limiting Clarion to just three hits over the course of seven innings. Seton Hill scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, with Colin Ahr hitting a two-run home run and Mark Black hitting an RBI double.

The Golden Eagles had a runner in scoring position in the top of the second, after Doran Mast drew a walk to push Jack Hurda to second base with two outs. Cole Yeager hit a grounder to shortstop, allowing the Griffins to retire Mast at second to end the threat.

A similar situation cropped up in the top of the fifth inning. Hurda drew a leadoff walk and Mast pulled a single through the left side of the infield, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Hurda was put out at third base on Yeager's grounder to shortstop, and Ethan McNally and Tyson Gill both struck out to end the inning.

One bright spot came on the pitcher's mound, where Christian Forgacs entered in the fourth inning. He threw three innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit in that span.

Game 2: Seton Hill 3, Clarion 1
RECAP: The second game was much closer, with Ahr once again producing the first runs. He hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning to give the Griffins the lead and he added an RBI double in the third, upping the advantage to 2-0.

The Golden Eagles cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth inning. Gill led off with a single to left field and proceeded to steal second, putting him in scoring position. Ethan Giangiulio pulled a double to right field, bringing Gill across to make it a 2-1 game. Clarion was unable to even the score, though, as Caden Contant and Hurda were both retired to end the inning.

Unfortunately, that was the last run for the Golden Eagles, as the Griffins kept any Clarion baserunners from advancing beyond first base the rest of the way. Brody Hinkle led off the fifth inning with a single but was stranded on the basepaths, and likewise Giangiulio drew a two-out walk in the top of the sixth without scoring. Hurda drew a walk to lead off the seventh inning with Clarion trailing 3-1, but a strikeout and two groundouts ended the action.
