WASHINGTON, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles baseball team continued conference action on Sunday afternoon, losing in both ends of a doubleheader to California (PA) at EQT Park. The Vulcans won the first game 6-1 and the second game 9-3.

Game 1: California (PA) 6, Clarion 1
RECAP: Similar to the two games played at Clarion on Friday afternoon, the first game on Sunday featured a quick flurry of action before both pitchers settled into grooves. The Golden Eagles scored on their first opportunity of the day, driving in a run in the top of the first inning.
Tyson Gill hit a one-out double down the left field line and later scored when
Ethan Giangiulio pulled a single through the right side of the infield to make it 1-0.
Â
The Vulcans responded in the bottom of the first inning, when Santino Marra hit a three-run home run with one out to give Cal a 3-1 lead. Neither side scored again until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Ikon Jones lifted a three-run home run over the fence to make it a 6-1 game.
Â
California was able to keep the Golden Eagles from threatening too much as the game went on, with the lone Clarion player to reach scoring position after the first inning coming in the top of the third.
Griffin Snyder singled up the middle with one out and advanced to second on
Randy Carlo's opposite field single, putting runners on first and second with two outs. Giangiulio flew out to end the inning.
Â
Aiden Hartle appeared in relief and threw his third scoreless outing in his last four appearances, allowing no hits or walks in 1.2 innings of relief. He has allowed just one run in his last 10.2 innings of work. Gill went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Game 2: California (PA) 9, Clarion 3
RECAP: Carlo got things going in the top of the first inning with his team-leading sixth home run of the season, driving a 2-1 pitch to left center field for a solo shot that put the Golden Eagles up by a run. The Vulcans came back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, with Payton Conte hitting an RBI double while Marra and Nathan Meeks hit back-to-back sacrifice flies.
Â
Jones upped the lead to 4-1 for the Vulcans, and the duo of James Salvatori and Conte hit solo home runs in the fourth inning to increase the lead to five runs.
Â
Clarion got one of those runs back in the top of the fifth inning, manufacturing a run to get on the board.
Jaxson Wood hit a single through the left side of the infield, advancing to third on a fielder's choice and when Snyder was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gill brought him home with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2. Carlo drew a walk with two outs to again load the bases, but Giangiulio struck out to end the inning.
Â
Caden Contant hit his third home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning, drilling a solo shot over the fence in left with two outs to make it 6-3, but the Vulcans added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
