FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Golden Eagles soccer team (0-3-0, 0-0-0) headed on the road on Wednesday, falling to Fairmont State (1-0-0, 0-0-0) by a 3-1 score at Duvall-Rosier Field.
The first half began with Clarion holding firm defensively, yet Fairmont State broke through in the 18th minute with a goal by Arrington Sparks. Despite multiple attempts by the visiting team, including a shot by
Marisa Colondrillo in the 31st minute that went over the top, Fairmont State extended their lead with goals from Montserrat Diaz and Serenity Thomas, concluding the half with a 3-0 advantage. Sherk made key saves to keep Clarion in contention, stopping shots in the 25th minute, but the team was unable to find the back of the net.
The second half began with the Falcons applying early pressure, as Sherk made a big save in the 46th minute. Clarion's defense held firm despite multiple corner kicks from the home side. In the 80th minute,
Mia Valerio found the back of the net for the first goal of her career, assisted by Dobb, narrowing the deficit to 3-1. Sherk continued to be pivotal in goal, making saves to keep Fairmont State from extending their lead.
Sherk recorded six saves while facing 15 shot. Dobb provided the team's only assist in the game..
