CLARION, Pa. — The Golden Eagles soccer team (0-2-0, 0-0-0) fell to Malone (1-0-1, 0-0-0) in a 2-1 defeat on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The first half began with Malone applying early pressure, culminating in goals by Raegan Radel in the 7th minute and Alyssa Schofield in the 9th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead.
Clarion responded with
Ciara DiMauro finding the back of the net for her third goal of the season in the 17th minute, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. The Golden Eagles earned a corner kick in the 18
th minute, with the ball from the corner ricocheting off goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan. DiMauro flew in and leaped off the ground, blasting the ball through the crowd of defenders for the tally.
Despite several additional attempts, including shots from
Marisa Colondrillo and
Alyssa Aquilio, the Golden Eagles were unable to equalize before the half ended.
The second half began with a robust goalkpeeing effort from Clarion's
Sage Sherk, who made a crucial save in the 46th minute to deny Malone's Morgan Kandel. Despite consistent pressure from the Pioneers, Clarion's
Reese Aquilio managed a shot on goal in the 74th minute, which was turned away by Henderhan. The half concluded without either team adding to the scoreline,.
Sherk made four saves during her 90 minutes in goal, facing 12 shots and allowing two goals.
Alyssa Aquilio registered two shots, one of which was on goal. Colondrillo led the team with three shots, two of which were on target.
