1932 Clarion University grad ... Secondary Education ... Joe Kata was an outstanding three-sport athlete at Clarion University and went on to great accomplishments following graduation ... At Clarion he started on both the offensive and defensive lines for four years (1928-31) ... Joe was captain of the 1931 football team ... He also lettered in basketball and baseball, was President of Student Government, on the Clarion Call and Sequelle staffs, and a member of the Varsity “C” Club ... A native of Ambridge, Pa., Joe went on to coach football at New Bethlehem and led his teams to undefeated seasons in 1940, 41 & 42, including a 37-game winning streak ... Following WWII he had another undefeated season in 1948 ... Joe was principal at N-B/Redbank Valley from 1950-61 and Superintendent from 61-73 ... He was President of the PIAA for 13 years ... Joe died in 1973 and is survived by his wife Verna Kata of New Bethlehem.
