Shelly Respecki came to Clarion in the Fall of 1990 and quarterbacked the Golden Eagles from her point guard position for two years to heights never seen in basketball at Clarion under head coach Margaret “Gie” Parsons.
 
A native of Erie, Pa., and a transfer from Niagara, she led the Golden Eagles to a school-record 24 wins (24-8), a PSAC West crown and the school’s first PSAC and NCAA Division II East Region titles and an NCAA Elite 8 finish in 1991. The 1992 team followed with a 25-4 record, the PSAC West title, and an NCAA Sweet 16 finish.
 
In only two seasons Respecki set the school record in career assists with 470, career free-throw percentage (81.4 percent), single-season assist record with 235 assists in both seasons and the single season free-throw percentage at 84.9 percent in 1992. Shelly also owned the single-game assist record with 14. She totaled 724 points, 470 assists, 206 rebounds and 109 steals.
 
A first-team PSAC West and an All-East Region selection both seasons, she was a PSAC Scholar Athlete.
 
A 1988 graduate of McDowell High School, Shelly, who has 16 years of coaching experience including as a graduate assistant in women's basketball at Clarion, enlisted in the Army National Guard in 2009. She is currently stationed in San Antonio, Texas.
