Robert "Bob" Shaw, a Clarion native, was an outstanding ·football player at Clarion. Earning four letters from 1949 through 1952, Shaw helped lead the 1952 Golden Eagles to its first undefeated season (9-0), including the Lions Bowl win over East Carolina. Considered an outstanding guard, Shaw co-captained the 1952 team and was voted as a "Little All-American," plus being named to Clarion's All-Time Team in the 1960's. At Clarion he also was president of the Varsity "C" Club and president of Student Senate (1952-53). An Education/Math major and 1953 graduate, Shaw distinguished himself as an outstanding coach after graduation. The defensive coordinator at West Virginia from 1988-90, Shaw also has had stints as assistant head coach at Akron (1986-87), the coordinator of run defense with the Portland Breakers (USFL) from 1984-85, linebackers coach at Arkansas (1983-84), and others:
